NESOP UPDATE

NESOP UPDATE

New England School of Photography is closing its doors at the end of this month, and I am lucky to be part of the last graduating class. Having taken many workshops in the past at NESOP, when it was located in Kenmore Square, I’m now checking another bucket list item off. I am finally graduating from their two year program, 35 years later than I wanted to. I am very excited to have learned all about my digital cameras that I have been using for the last 20 years. Besides updating my digital camera equipment recently, I’ve updated my knowledge of photography for the 21st century. As much as I love B&W film processing and printing in the darkroom, I am excited to put my new knowledge of Photoshop and Lightroom skills to good use processing my digital files into beautiful prints.

My studies at NESOP this year included On-line Portfolio, Digital Skills, Advanced Business classes with my “major” being in Portraiture and my “minor” is in Documentary. I’ve been a portrait and event photographer for almost 4 decades, but I’ve recently started experimenting with lifestyle portraiture and documentary style photography. In Documentary class I had to throw out everything I have ever learned about taking a photo and what it should look like. It was a very, very frustrating class for me by challenging me on how I thought a picture should look and feel. So long rule of thirds, razor sharp photos and setting up my composition! Learning to shooting in the moment is what I’m aspiring to do.

I look forward to my future in the photography world. I hope to pass on some of my new knowledge teaching digital skills along with my knowledge of B&W film developing and printing.

To view my latest work please check out my photography work on my website, that I just happen to have built in my On-line Portfolio class this semester (Thank you Frank for all your patience! Thank you Chris for all your suggestions and positive criticisms!).

YES, it is amazing that I actually built it on my own and stopped calling my daughter-in-law asking her to do it.

Thank you for reading and I hope to keep you updated every few months on how my new knowledge is being put to good use in the work field as well as in my travels.

Peace, Love and Smiles!
